“I first met Susan when I actively started to search for a Naturopath that could help me improve my general health, irregular periods and low energy levels. Susan organised for me to have my saliva hormones tested and through the information that came back from the report Susan started to focus on my hormone imbalances with the aid of herbal and nutritional medicine. During this time my periods started to become more regular and my energy levels improved significantly. Some months then passed and we received the best news – we we’re expecting! Something that I would have never thought possible!
Thank you Susan for your warm, compassionate and always friendly advice. Monique and Stiian”
Thinking of making babies? … Is it as easy as you think ?
Recent trends show there is a general decline in the fertility rate. This is due to factors such as couples deferring childbirth because of their careers, the more efficient use of contraception, work and financial stress as well as lifestyle factors.
In young couples fertility remains relatively stable until 29-30 years of age and then gradually decreases every year thereafter with a more rapid decline towards the age of 40 years.
Fertility is a factor of general health and wellbeing. The healthier you are prior to conception, the healthier your embryo at conception and the more optimal the entire process as you continue to enjoy a healthy pregnancy.

Natural Fertility and Optimising Your Pregnancy
Pregnancy can be both emotionally exciting as well as daunting for the ‘mum to be’.
The duration of pregnancy is usually about 40 weeks. Our role as Naturopaths during all of this very important time is to support, encourage and educate; as well as to optimise the health of the mother and her developing child in the safest way possible.
Whilst most pregnancies are of course healthy; naturopathic support combined with the techniques of modern medicine and monitoring during pregnancy can help with timely detection of conditions such as gestational diabetes. For example an early intervention of a change in diet and lifestyle may reduce the likelihood of this condition.
Our fully integrated programs for optimal conception and pregnancy support are specifically prepared for you and are designed to take you through all the stages of the embryonic development of your baby.
Whatever stage you are in in your pregnancy, it is never too late to start to receive the support and care that we offer.

Infertility – What to do when things don’t go to plan
Infertility is defined as “the inability to conceive after 12 months or more of regular, unprotected intercourse with the same partner”.
It is a problem prevalent in Australia.
The Fertility Society of Australia estimate that 1 in 6 couples ( ~15%) of reproductive age suffer from fertility problems.
Infertility is very much shared between males and females. In just under half of all infertile couples; statistics show the cause of infertility to be equally shared about 80% of the time.
Why do things go wrong ?
Things that are known to affect infertility are listed below:
- Use of the oral contraceptive pill (OCP), Depo-Provera or contraceptive implants
- Menstrual irregularities
- PCOS – Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
- Family history of thyroid problems
- Increased exposure to toxins
- Poor diet
- Low hormone levels eg Progesterone
- 35 or older. (In couples, age has long been acknowledged as a risk factor for fertility, reproductive health, miscarriage, premature or stillbirth, poor foetal and infant health).
- Sperm – are some of the smallest cells in the human body, their DNA can be very vulnerable to heavy metals
If you have a history of, or have experienced any of these conditions, we would recommend that you undertake our full hormone male or female screening as appropriate.
Hormone Screening is a non-invasive process using saliva samples.
We test all the main sex hormones. This test allows us to see, by way of a detailed analysis, any irregularities which may require balancing in order to achieve a healthy pregnancy.
The laboratories we use have Gold Standard Quality Assurance Programs (QAP) and have received a ‘Certificate of Proficiency’ for the measurement of saliva hormones.
